The invasive herb Lupinus polyphyllus can reduce plant species richness independently of local invasion age

چکیده

Abstract The ecological impacts of invasive species may change or accumulate with time since local invasion, potentially inducing further changes in communities and the abiotic environment. Yet, invasion is rarely considered when investigating non-native species. To examine effect on Lupinus polyphyllus , a perennial nitrogen-fixing herb, we surveyed vascular plant presence absence L. young, intermediate, old semi-natural grassland sites (ca. 5, 10, 15 years representing both lupine community age). We analyzed composition, richness, cover various groups . In contrast to our hypotheses, found no mean (about 35%) an ordination did not suggest marked composition. was associated lower richness invaded but this invasion. Invaded were also occurrence generalist, oligotrophic (low-nutrient-adapted) copiotrophic (nutrient-demanding) temporal dynamics detected. conclude that even intermediate can reduce impact caused by invader might dramatically

The Effect of the Invasive Plant Species Lupinus polyphyllus Lindl. on Energy Recovery Parameters of Semi-Natural Grassland Biomass

Biodiversity of semi-natural grasslands is increasingly endangered by successful invasive plant species such as the legume Lupinus polyphyllus Lindl. In order to contain the propagation of this plant species, early and regular harvesting needs to be applied. Therefore, a form of utilization for the harvested biomass has to be developed. One opportunity could be the use of the biomass as a feeds...

No universal scale-dependent impacts of invasive species on native plant species richness.

A growing number of studies seeking generalizations about the impact of plant invasions compare heavily invaded sites to uninvaded sites. But does this approach warrant any generalizations? Using two large datasets from forests, grasslands and desert ecosystems across the conterminous United States, we show that (i) a continuum of invasion impacts exists in many biomes and (ii) many possible sp...

Effects of earthworm invasion on plant species richness in northern hardwood forests.

The invasion of non-native earthworms (Lumbricus spp.) into a small number of intensively studied stands of northern hardwood forest has been linked to declines in plant diversity and the local extirpation of one threatened species. It is unknown, however, whether these changes have occurred across larger regions of hardwood forests, which plant species are most vulnerable, or with which earthw...

What determines positive, neutral, and negative impacts of Solidago canadensis invasion on native plant species richness?

Whether plant invasions pose a great threat to native plant diversity is still hotly debated due to conflicting findings. More importantly, we know little about the mechanisms of invasion impacts on native plant richness. We examined how Solidago canadensis invasion influenced native plants using data from 291 pairs of invaded and uninvaded plots covering an entire invaded range, and quantified...

Landscape corridors can increase invasion by an exotic species and reduce diversity of native species.

Landscape corridors are commonly used to mitigate negative effects of habitat fragmentation, but concerns persist that they may facilitate the spread of invasive species. In a replicated landscape experiment of open habitat, we measured effects of corridors on the invasive fire ant, Solenopsis invicta, and native ants. Fire ants have two social forms: polygyne, which tend to disperse poorly but...
